Hotel Auberge le Petit Prince is ideally located at the foot of the highest dunes of Merzouga, where the sand dunes begin to climb to heights of 300 meters. Situated in the heart of the Berber village of Merzouga, against the backdrop of the Sahara Desert and Erg Chebbi dunes, the Auberge Le Petit Prince welcomes you into their traditional, charming, and family owned hotel. It is owned and run by four brothers: Zaid, Hassan, Mubarek, and Said; who speak Arabic, Berber, French, English, Spanish, German, and Italian. This family team works to ensure you a peaceful stay in the Southern Morocco Meknès-Tafilalet region. Here, in this peaceful and intimate setting, you have found the right base from which to discover the magical atmosphere of the desert. From the Auberge you will depart for the unforgettable experience of a camel safari into the dunes, and take with you an authentic and lovely memory of the lives of the Berbers. Experience the sunset from our rooftop terraces and drink a glass of mint tea in our peaceful, tree-shaded courtyard. On-site amenities include an excellent restaurant serving traditional Berber cuisine, and Internet access available in the restaurant and in the courtyard.


Rooms at the Auberge

Our double, triple, and family rooms are spacious and comfortable. The bedding is of good quality and the rooms are tastefully decorated with Berber carpets, traditional blankets, and paintings. Rooms have a private bathroom with toilet and shower for your comfort. The terrace overlooking the dunes is accessible to all guests for meals or just to drink tea and read a book. A setting to relax after long days of trekking or travel.

Camping Facilities Le Petit Prince

Our hotel has a large open area especially dedicated to the RVs and camping cars, as well as tents. You will be at the edge of the dunes, and have water and electricity. You also have at your disposal showers, toilets, laundry, and dish washing facilities. You can enjoy tranquility in our private courtyard. We are located close to the center of the village for your shopping needs or for transport.

Bivouac Desert Camp

We offer a private bivouac experience in Erg Chebbi for one, two, or three nights or as long as you like. Cross the dunes by camel or by 4X4 vehicle to arrive at our charming and magical desert camp, in time to watch the sun go down. You sleep in comfortable beds under our nomad tents. Dinner and drum parties under the stars will make everyone feel like a Berber nomad. Wake up at dawn to watch the sunrise, then back to Auberge le Petit Prince, where a delicious breakfast buffet and hot showers will be waiting. For those who prefer to stay at the camp, breakfast can be served there too.

Restaurant

The family restaurant at Auberge Le Petit Prince makes fresh and authentic Moroccan and Berber dishes. We offer tagines, couscous, soups, Berber pizza, grilled meats, salads, omelettes, and many other dishes for lunch and dinner. You can enjoy meals in our restaurant or on the terrace overlooking the dunes. In the morning a delicious full breakfast (buffet for groups) will be served, which includes Moroccan pancakes, bread, coffee, tea, muffins, butter and jam, eggs, yogurt, orange juice, etc ...If you have special diet needs (e.g. vegetarian) please let us know and we will accomodate.

We organize birthday and anniversary parties and many kinds of events at the Auberge or at our magical and romantic desert camp. Just let us know and we can organize cakes and special food requests for your event. We have space for large and small groups and can organize group excursions to celebrate a special event. Itinerary 3 Days & 2 Nights Desert Tours From Marrakech To Merzouga

Day 1 – Marrakesh – Ouazazate – Dades Gorge

We will pick you up at 8 am, then travel over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (elevation 2,260 meters/7,414 feet) enjoying superb views of the mountains and of the Berber villages on the way. We will stop for lunch and tour in the World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou (this famousKasbah was used as a backdrop for more than 20 films.) We then pass through the city of Ouarzazate and continue leisurely through the Valley of Roses and onwards to the Valley. Cultural and historic highlights along the way include the oasis of Skoura, heritage sites in the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs and finally, the stunning natural wonder of the Dades Gorges, where we’ll stay overnight, in an authentic hotel with modern accommodations.

Day 2 – Dades Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast at the hotel we will depart for the Todra Gorge: a massive fault rising up to 300 m in a narrow valley, with lush palm oases and picturesque Berber Villages. After lunch in the gorge, we will drive to the great sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, passing through Erfoud and Rissani, following the ancient caravan paths that eventually lead to Timbuktu. After we arrive in Merzouga, we’ll have some mint tea, and leave our baggage in a room at the hotel. Then you will ride your camels (about one hour and a half) in order to arrive at the desert camp, staying in Nomadic Berber tents. We’ll have dinner, camp fire, drum party and overnight stay in the desert under a sky full of stars. You’ll have free time to sandboard, and watch for shooting stars.

Day 3 – Merzouga – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

We will wake up you in the early morning to experience sunrise in the dunes, and then we’ll ride the camels back to the hotel in Merzouga. There, breakfast and showers are waiting for you. Mid-morning, we start our journey back to Marrakesh, taking a different road and passing through new scenery and well-known Berber sites such as Alnif , Tazarine , and N’kob until Ouarzazate, where we will take rejoin the same road through the mountains back down to Marrakech. The tour ends in the evening as we reach the city and drop you off at your desired destination.

Itinerary 4 Days and 3 night desert tours from Fes to Merzouga

Day 1: Fes - Medilt - Todra Gorges

After the breakfast Leaving Fez and going to Todra Gorges , passing through Ifrane to arrive to the cedar forests of Azrou where the wild monkeys are located. It will be good opportunity to take photos of wilderness in Morocco. Lunch in a small Berber village of Zaida.We continue the way through the Atlas Mountains enjoying the landscapes of Medilt to arrive to the small town of Rich. Here ,we turn right to pass through the famous town of Imilchil before arriving to Toudra Gorges in evening where we’ll spend the night intraditional and comfortable a hotel with dinner .

Day 2: Toudra Gorges – Erfoud – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga

After breakfast, we leave behind the Toudra gorges as we descend southwards towards the desert of Merzouga, the Erg Chebbi dunes. We’ll pass through Berber villages and towns like Tinjdad, Jorf and Erfoud, where we can observe the beginnings of the Tafilalet oasis. We’ll have lunch in along the way, and then continue to Merzouga, where we’ll leave our baggage at the hotel and ride our camels into the dunes of Erg Chebbi, which are considered highest in North Africa. We’ll spend the night in a Desert Camp, where the evening promises dinner, camp fire, drum party and overnight stay in the traditional and comfortable nomad tents of the Berbers.

Day 3: Merzouga – Desert Tour – Rissani – Erg Chebbi Merzouga

After breakfast, you will go all the way round the dunes in a 4WD vehicle, visiting the oasis of Merzouga, the nomadic depository, village of khamlia. You’ll visit the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations. After experiencing this stunning landscape you’ll leave for Rissani. Once called Sijilmassa, this was the meeting place for the salt caravans, coming from Timbuktu in Mali. Here you’ll walk through the souk, full of vendors selling spices, vegetables and clothes as well as Berber antiques and unique treasures. After a lunch of Medfouna, a local delicacy nicknamed “Berber pizza” by the inhabitants, you will travel back to your hotel where we’ll spend a relaxing night in the hotel.

Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Boulmane – Fes

After breakfast we’ll start the trip back to Fez. This road takes us through the Ziz Valley, famous for the best dates in Morocco, to the town of Errachidia. From here we traverse again the Middle Atlas, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. The road splits and we pass through the moutain town of Boulmane to finally arrive to Fez. Our guide will make sure you reach your chosen Riad or Hotel

Day 1 – Marrakesh –Ait Ben Haddou kasbah-Ouazazate – Dades Gorge

We will meet you at your Hotel or Riad in Marrakech and start our tour to the Dades Valley via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and over the High Atlas Mountains. ToDay you will enjoy travelling through the dramatic pass and the amazing views of the Berber villages and the amazing landscape changing as the Day progresses. You will stop in Ourazazate to visit the Kasbah Taourirt, one of the most beautiful Kasbahs on this area. You’ll have lunch at the Kasbah and continue to the Dades Gorge through the road of “the Thousand Kasbahs”, which offers many bueatiful photo opportunities of nature and people. then we’ll get to Kalaat Mgouna ­ the centre of roses valley­ famous for roses and its annual festival during the roses harvest in May, then to the Dades Valley where you will enjoy seeing the amazing rock formation called “the monkey toes”. Overnight at a traditional guesthouse. Half­board).

Day 2 – Dades Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga

Enroute you couldn’t fail to appreciate the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes - changing with the light as the Day progresses. After breakfast and shower in the riad, you will start an explorative journey of the area. You’ll visit the village of the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan Mali and Senegal, to experience their music and lifestyle. After that, you leave for Rissani - once Sijilmassa - the foundation of the Alaouite daynasty, the current ruling family. With most of the woman veiled, and men hooded, this is a very traditional Moroccan town. We’ll continue driving towards the spectacular kasbah Tamnougalt and Agdez village, via Alnif and Tazzarine, before we get to the fascinating Draa Valley at the edge of the Atlas Mountains, along which lay hundreds of Berber Kasbahs, then to Ouarzazate, where you will be at a riad

Day 4 : Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech

After breakfast in your riad, you will start travelling to Marrakech via the largest Kasbah in Morocco, and then over the Atlas Mountains. Your first stop will be at the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. Built by one of the last Berber chieftain El Glaoui Et-Hami in the late 19th century, it is now a UNESCO heritage site, which toDay still houses many Glaoui family members. Journeying on through the Ounilla valley to Kasbah Telouet, you will enjoy the panoramic views and the scenic moon-like landscape with the contrast of the Berber villages and the Atlas Mountains. ToDay you will also visit the Kasbah Telouet, an area that was known for the trading caravans led by T-Hami El Glaoui ancestors during the end of the 19th century. Your journey will continue through the majestic Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains, before arriving at your accommodation in Marrakech where the tour ends

DESERT TOURS FROM FES

Itinerary 4 Days and 3 night desert tours from Fes to Merzouga

We’ll pass through Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco” and then arrive at the national parks and cedar forests of Azrou,  where the wild Barbary monkeys live.
